Colección: Luis Felipe Oviedo
Painting came to him as an early vocation, however, he waited a long time to dedicate his best time to it. The time of the brush was imposed and years ago, Luis Felipe Oviedo, lords with his Renaissance mastery, a peculiar type of work.
A baroque aesthetic, just to be seen in his paintings. In his beginnings, black ink and white cardboard are enough for a world of contrasts. Often violent, where beauty, love, good, coexist with evil, hatred, ugliness and ugliness and it is not yet the limit: the transition zones, what we call ambiguity, grotesque, mockery, irony, are "harmonizing" in a pictorial pentagram, a Caribbean concert. Dream and reality, surrealism and the marvelous real, land and sea, sea on land... land on sea, ropes and nets, in humid airs of sea waves, sex and genealogy, histories and presents, collectivities and individuals, it is an endless list for a work that cannot be stopped once it is contemplated. Luis Felipe has an identifiable and unique style.
To such conceptual richness comes a heritage in painting, it is true: La Bella Epoca, Salvador Dalí, The Cuban schools of the twentieth century, the international neo styles of the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties. Possessing a sense of detail, he refuses, however, to cultivate miniatures, while in his more elaborate paintings we find them all over. Oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolors, colored pencils, approached him as experience and he has remained.
II
Luis Felipe Oviedo is a Cuban painter of the end of the last century, he is also a cartoonist, illustrator, caricaturist, exhibition designer and graphic designer, a profession he graduated from the Institute for Industrial Design in Havana in 1984. He has collaborated with different press organs in his country. That is why he is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.
His plastic art is known in Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, the United States, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, England and India.
Luis Felipe has a constant work in ink on cardboard, oil on canvas, acrylic, watercolor and pastel. To this work he adds a kind of monumental painting in oil and/or acrylic on wall, as he is the author of a mural, which has extended from the bedroom to the ceilings of his house. All the expression of his work has reinforced his pictorial style, which undoubtedly identifies him. An example of this is that visitors fascinated by the "Luis Felipe Chapel", as his home studio has been called, end up being equally seduced by his paintings.
Luis Felipe Oviedo saves himself from a very current trend, landscape painting and false primitivism. He will transcend, because he has nothing to do with his contemporaries, because he does not follow fashions, because he guides himself, towards a universe, which already integrates the Caribbean and Latin America. It transcends because being fin-de-siècle, it is already of this century.
